Big Willies Nashville

ABOUT big willie's nashville

Big Willie’s Action Sports is a locally owned and operated stand up paddle boarding and kayaking tour company. At Big Willie’s we have a passion for outdoor recreation and superb customer service. We operate tours in the heart of Music City!

We strive to make every guest experience a memorable one. With awe-inspiring views of the Nashville skyline and insight into what make makes Nashville so unique, this is certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity!

We offer an active summer camp on the water, host group events and team building exercises or you can join our SUP Yoga classes on the water. We have a bit of everything and cater to every skill level!

who is big willie?

Big Willie is actually a bulldog!

Where do we park and meet?

What should I wear and bring?

We highly recommend a hat and sunglasses as well as a ziplock or dry bag for your phone and personal items if needed to bring along with you on the river.  The Cumberland river is a open commercial water way making the sun very intense in the summer months.  Anything valuable should be left in your vehicle or hotel room.  You can wear workout attire or a bathing suit.  If it's a bit chilly you can bring a sweatshirt or hoodie.  Most people do not falloff unless they want to go for a swim.  Bring a change of clothing in case you case you get a bit wet.

Do you offer group tours?

Yes!  We love group tours and offer a 10% discount for groups over 6.  Please contact us to book your group outing!  Paddling with us is great for bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays and corporate events.

What happens if there is bad weather?

We carefully monitor weather conditions before our paddle sessions. If we suspend a tour or class due to high winds or storms, we will postpone or reschedule. Due to the nature of our tours and the limited number of equipment we will only provide refunds for tours cancelled at least 24 hours in advance on a case by case basis. No shows or late cancellations will not receive a refund.

Can kids rent a paddle board or kayak?

Absolutely!  We have kids as young as six years old come paddle with us!  If a child is under 16 they will need to be accompanied by a parent.  Smaller children and pets will need to provide their own life jacket.  We can place younger children in a tandem kayak with an adult.  In addition we have 9ft paddle boards and 6ft kayaks that children or young adults can use.

Do you have storage ?

Storage space is very limited.  We have one large dry bag and first come, first serve waterproof phone protector with lance.

What are your COVID-19 requirements?

All of our equipment is sanitized after each trip.  Guests are asked mask during the shuttle ride and near other guests not in their group.

Is paddling the Cumberland river difficult?

Paddle boarding is much easier than it looks, and if you would like you can sit down or kneel rather than standing up on the board. Paddling the Cumberland river is a great route for beginners. It will be an active paddle but it is normally very calm with small waves.

What is the weight limit for your equipment?

Our kayaks are rated for a weight up to 275 pounds and 300 pounds for paddle boards. We only allow one person per kayak and paddle boards unless it's a tandem kayak with space for two people.

Great experience! Nice and relaxing paddle along the Cumberland River for my family of 4. Sunset paddle was... a great way to kick off our 4th of July weekend in Nashville. Guides are super friendly, helpful, and flexible. Offered a couple of different options when our launch site changed due to circumstances beyond their control. Turned out beautifully! They took great pictures of our family with the sunset skyline behind us, and even gave us homemade lemonade and treats afterwards! We certainly recommend Big Willie’s! Thanks y’all!read more

We tried to book a kayaking tour while in Nashville last week and were extremely frustrated with the poor... customer service. We booked the day before we planned to take the tour and our booking was cancelled 2 hours before our tour, via email. No phone call, no text message. I had also tried to call several times to ask questions and it went straight to voicemail every time. The website and the outgoing voicemail said they responded to texts, so I tried that and got no response. Not even in the moment that we had arrived for our tour and discovered too late that it had been cancelled 2 hours earlier. Not once did we hear from ANYONE at Big Willie's other than what looked like automated messages regarding our booking. I would NOT recommend this more

This was a FANTASTIC experience! My girlfriend and I were visiting Nashville for just a couple of days, so we... decided to give kayaking with Big Willie’s a whirl. It turned out to be a perfect, leisurely float down the Cumberland. It is worth noting that the staff takes care of all of the logistics for you - where you park is where you come off the water. To start the tour, they provide a roomy shuttle to pick customers up at a designated parking lot, and transport them to the insert point. The guides were very personable, knowledgeable, and professional. They are great folks, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a relaxing outdoor experience or simply an escape from the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day. They welcome individuals, couples, and groups so you can’t go wrong. We will undoubtedly book with them again the next time we are in Nashville!read more

We went kayaking today and we loved it! We had been scheduled for later in the week when the weather was... supposed to be terrible and they were pretty sure they’d have to cancel, so they called us and offered us a time slot earlier in the week. It was so thoughtful! We’d do this again if we come back!read more
